In 1929, two of the country’s oldest and largest banks, The National City Bank of New York and The Farmers Loan and Trust Company merged to become the City Bank Farmers Trust Company. The new conglomerate chose renowned architects Cross & Cross to design a new skyscraper that would solidify the banking institution's presence on Wall Street.
