Original Design for Brooklyn Museum, 1905

Original Design for Brooklyn Museum, 1905

from $22.99

Drawing showing the original, full design of the Brooklyn Museum, 1905. Only 1/5th of the original McKim, Mead & White designed museum was constructed -  the museum was built in sections but never completed, starting with the West Wing (1897), then Central Pavilion (1904), and finally East Wing wing (1910). The court on the northeast side was delayed due to World War I and not finished until 1926! The Depression stalled plans to complete the original design, which would end up being only 1/5th constructed! If the full design see here had been built, it would have been the largest single museum structure in the world.
