Congestion Pricing Devices & Signs

What will the new congestion pricing toll devices look like? It appears they won't look like toll booths or the new cashless tolls on the city's bridges and tunnels. The above images were included as suggestions with the MTA's recent request for proposals for toll collection equipment. The devices will capture license plates and EZ passes for any vehicle entering Manhattan below 61st Street, not including the FDR Drive and West Side Highway.

Left: Renderings of the conceptual mast arms for the toll collection system. These would attach to already existing DOT infrastructure. State law exempts the equipment from historic preservation requirements, meaning they can attach to landmarked structures like Central Park’s historic cast-iron lamp posts.

Right: Proposed signs alerting drivers they are entering the congestion pricing zone.
